BIOGRAPHY:

John Burks Edwards and his brother, Benjamin Franklin Edwards, along with their families, came to

Missouri about 1880, settling in Laclede Country near the present village of Russ.

Being a family of religious convictions, it soon became apparent that a house of workshop was needed

and members of the Edwards family were instrumental in the organization in 1881 of the New Hope

Bapist Church. Through the years this church has served the community and still is an active Baptist

Church. The cemetery nearby was also started by the Edwards family the first grave being that of

Rebecca Hardy Edwards, the second wife of John Burks Edwards.

The favorite pass-time of all the Edward families seemed to be singing and were considered to be

excellent singers. This talent has continued to present generations and there are many Edwards

decendants today who love to sing gospel

Dorothy Kemp. Object of bill is to obtain decree for payment of legacy left

to the complainant by Joseph Staley by his last will. Bill states that on

4 Feb. 1804 Joseph Staley made his will wherein he devised his dwelling

plantatiion to defendant Jacob Staley, charged with the payment of 200 pounds

current money to the complainant. Jacob Staley resides in OH. in insolvent

circumstances. That Jacob Staley has since sold said land to Frederick Kemp

who is now dec'd., leaving Dorothy Kemp his sole extx. and devisee of his estate.
